Zambezi Horse Trails

Zambezi Horse Trails

Half and Full Day Horse Ride Safaris

With options for Novice and Experienced Riders

Qualified, licensed guides lead all rides and are accompanied by a back up rider. All our guides are dedicated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A keen interest is taken in the environment as well as the flora and fauna of the area.

All rides start and end at our Stables on the outskirts of Victoria Falls town. Riding through National Park areas there is always a high chance of encountering some of the wild animals which live here, often at close quarters and from the comfort of your saddle.

Horse Rides in Victoria Falls with Zambezi Horse Trails

For Novice Riders

Morning or Afternoon Rides

These short morning or afternoon trips, between 2½ to 3 hours in total, provide novice riders with an opportunity to enjoy the special experience of exploring the African bush by horseback. Novice rides are for those with limited riding experience, or who have not ridden for some time, but you should be reasonably fit. Your riding ability will be assessed and you will be given support and guidance as necessary.

At the beginning of the ride Alison will give riders brief instructions on controlling their horses. Guides accompanying the ride will assist throughout, although clients will have to control their own horses. For clients who have done some riding there will be opportunities to trot, or even canter, but only if they are proficient enough to do so. The horses used on a novice ride are quiet, though still of good quality, and shorter distances are covered.

For more experienced riders...

If you wish to book an experienced ride - either a short morning or afternoon ride, extended morning, full day or multi-day trip - you must be able to ride unassisted and with confidence. At minimum you should have mastered basic aids, be able to do a rising trot for stretches of at least 10 minutes at a time, be comfortable at all paces and able to gallop out of trouble, even at the end of a long days ride. If you are doing a multi-day safari you should be riding fit on arrival. The more proficient and fitter you are, the more you will enjoy your trip.

Morning or Afternoon Rides

These short morning or afternoon rides, between 2½ to 3 hours in total, provide more experienced riders with an opportunity to enjoy the special experience of exploring the African bush.

Full Day

For experienced riders only, with approximately 6 hours riding, and up to 8 hours total turnaround, our full day riding option is offered only in cooler months.

Full day rides include picnic lunch stop with short-siesta time through the mid-day heat at the hottest times of year.

"Out of this world! I went on the 4.5 hour morning trek, and I have to say it was definitely the highlight of my trip to Victoria Falls. Alison was extremely professional and gave me a lovely horse called Sola, who matched me perfectly in terms of my riding experience. Although I was slightly nervous about the prospect of riding in the African bush with wild animals, it was something I've wanted to do for ages, and our guides were so great that I was instantly put at ease and enjoyed every minute! We came up-close to some incredible game - 2 herds of elephants, buffalo, kudu, impala, and of course some warthog. But even if we hadn't seen any wildlife, just being out in the African bush as the sun came up would have been enough. If you're going to Victoria Falls, then put Zambezi Horse Trails on your bucket list!" fionan915, Cork, Ireland, TripAdvisor, Oct 2017
