Zambezi Horse Safaris

Explore wild and wilderness areas with Zambezi Horse Trails

Our Stables are surrounded by National Park and Game Areas used exclusively for Zambezi Horse Trails' rides. The varied terrain is a mosaic of habitats and includes areas of outstanding natural beauty and ecological importance, from the majestic Zambezi River, with the rising spray of the Victoria Falls, to rugged mopane woodland and ancient dunes of Kalahari sand covered in teak forest. Even for us, your guides, it is ever changing, always different, and a continual source of inspiration and interest.

Game is plentiful in the National Park surrounding the stables and the Zambezi River area. Depending on the season you may see elephant, buffalo, kudu, impala, bushbuck, waterbuck, banded mongoose and warthog. Along the river can be found hippo and crocodile, and occasionally cape clawless otters may also be spotted. There are several resident leopard and hyaena are also present in the area, but rarely spotted, and even wild dog are sometimes seen during the rains. But remember, no game is guaranteed - your ride is more about riding a good horse in an amazing wilderness and wildlife area, and not a checklist safari!

Birds and other wildlife abound, of all colours, shapes and sizes. Lilac-breasted rollers, white-fronted bee-eaters and trumpeter hornbills are common, and if you are lucky you may glimpse the brilliant green and bright scarlet colours of the elusive Schalow's Turaco, which is found along the riverine forest. You will also learn many of the traditional uses of plants and trees, basic principles of tracking, and aspects of traditional village life. Our rides are conducted with the aim of disturbing wildlife as little as possible and the pace of the ride and method of approach is regulated accordingly.

All rides start and end at our Stables on the outskirts of Victoria Falls town. Riding through National Park areas there is always a high chance of encountering some of the wild animals which live here, often at close quarters and from the comfort of your saddle.

Horse Rides in Victoria Falls with Zambezi Horse Trails

"Tailored riding experience... I contacted Allison by email, and she was very helpful setting everything up for the 2.5h ride. It was one of our favorite activities, particularly because Itela, our guide took the time to understand our experience and expectations, and matched the two to give us the best possible ride. The horses were also well matched to each of us, my wife got a very docile responsive horse, which suited her personality and experience. I got one with a little more attitude, which given I enjoy a challenge, made it that much more fun once I got her to follow my directions." Florian D, TripAdvisor, Dec 2017
